SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS


Speedway High School Homecoming events will take place from September 13th through September 18th. Information on these events can be found below:

Spirit Wear:
Monday, Sept. 13th - Hawaiian or Class Colors
Tuesday, Sept. 14th - 1960s/Hippie Day or Class Colors
Wednesday, Sept. 15th - Western Wear or Class Colors
Thursday, Sept. 16th - Superhero or Class Colors
Friday, Sept. 17th - Speedway Spirit or Class Colors 

Penny Wars
Donate your spare change for a great cause during Homecoming Week. In the cafeteria during Homecoming Week, there will be 4 buckets into which you can deposit your change. Put your silver coins into your own class bucket to increase your class totals and your pennies into the opposing class buckets to decrease their totals. The winning class will earn points toward the spirit competition. All proceeds will go to Riley Hospital.
 
Cafeteria Decorating
Get in the Homecoming Spirit by decorating the cafeteria after school on Tuesday, Sept. 14th from 3:30-5:30 pm. The class with the best decorations will be that much closer to winning the spirit competition.
 
Cornhole Tournament
The Speedway Intramural Department’s inaugural event of the 2010-2011 school year will be a Cornhole Tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 15th starting at 5:00 pm. Any student who has a partner is welcome to participate in the event. See Mr. Dever or Mr. Shively to sign up or for more details.
Homecoming Cookout
Coinciding with the Cornhole Tournament will be the Prom Committee’s Homecoming Cookout. All students are welcome to enjoy this great opportunity to enjoy some friendly competition and have an inexpensive meal.
 
Homecoming Dance
The Student Council will host a semi-formal Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Sept. 18th from 7:00-10:00 pm in the cafeteria. Tickets are $5 and can be bought during lunch or from Mr. Shively in room 154. The last day to buy tickets is Wednesday, Sept. 15th. Students who wish to bring a non-SHS guest will need to also pick up a permission form for that guest when buying tickets.



HOMECOMING T-SHIRTS

Homecoming t-shirts are now on sale. Shirts are $10 and will be printed in the following class colors:
Fresh - Green
Soph - Orange
Junior - Red
Seniors - Blue

Pick up an order form in the office, from Miss McKay, or by clicking here. Order forms and payment must be given to Miss McKay by 9am on Sept 7th or they will not be sent.


PROM FUNDRAISER

In order to raise money for this year's Prom, all underclassmen are invited to participate in this year's magazine fundraiser. By particpating, students are eligible for the following prizes:

  • For every 3 magazine orders turned in, student will receive a spin-out from Twist & Pup
  • For every 3 magazine orders turned in, student will have a chance to draw money out of the cash bag next week
  • For every 12 magazine orders turned in, student will receive a $25 gift card

Don't forget that online and renewals for magazines count towards your totals. To renew online click here and enter the school code 425053352.

Please turn all the orders and books into your 4th period teacher. The 4th period class with the most magazine orders will win a pizza party. Fundraiser ends September 8th.

RECYCLE...RECYCLE...RECYCLE
All community members can now recycle paper at Speedway High School.  SHS will be paid for each ton of paper it generates.  Please bring any of the following items to the green and yellow bin located in the rear parking lot to help us earn money and to promote a greener environment for the whole community.

FACT:  Each person generates 5 lbs of trash per day.  42% is paper!

Envelopes
Paperback Books
Hardcover Books that have had the covers removed
NO CARDBOARD PRODUCTS!

To date, Speedway High School has recycled over 6 tons of paper, saved over 18 cubic yards of landfill space, and saved over 24,000 KWH of energy. Please help us to meet our goal of collecting one ton of paper each month so that our school can earn money and make the community greener.

The green and yellow recycling bin is located in the rear parking lot of SHS.
